Flecktarn is the german woodland pattern. It works on a five colour dot pattern to disrupt the outline of a person (the idea of camouflage patterns not been to make someone look like a tree but to not make them look like a person. The black is included on this pattern and while not a naturally occurring colour is used as the 2D answer to giving the illusion of shadow.
That’s the technical side out of the way, now my opinion on the flecktarn camo pattern. I like it, its not nearly as common as British DPM which can get a bit samey and it works. And to be fair all camo woodland camo patterns work almost eqaully well in the wood.
I have used just the Flecktarn coat to hide from people in the real world and its worked every time (Except that time I tried to use it in tescos :-p).
You will get a lot of stick from people in DPM for using Flecktarn, however you'll get respect from me for not listening to them as at least your not a fucking sheep. I can understand ex-army folk having pride in wearing DPM, but unless you’re going the whole hog and recreating the British infantryman with an SA-80 its not the law that you have to wear the camo pattern from your country. As Sean from Light fighter says, "We're grown men dressed up as soldiers playing with toy guns", so relax a little you'll live longer.
